Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Camp |
August 17-21, 2008 |
event |
RCMP Campsite, Long Island Locks (Manotick, Ontario) |
The Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championship holds two fiddle camps every year.
Our fiddle camps are designed for fiddlers and pianists to learn old time tunes and piano accompaniment. The emphasis is on playing by ear; however, some music is available.
This is an opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians in Canada in a relaxed setting where we want you to have fun while you learn. If you love traditional fiddling and have a basic knowledge of playing, this camp is for you. Piano players should have a basic knowledge of piano and chords.
We have classes for everyone, young and old, and for all levels of playing.
Our summer fiddle camp fills up early so be sure and book your spot in the new winter camp soon.

The summer fiddle camp, known as the By-The-Canal Fiddle Camp, is held at the RCMP Campsite, Long Island Locks, Manotick, Ontario, 10 kilometers south of Ottawa. Dates for the 2008 Summer Fiddle Camp: Sunday August 17 to Thursday August 21, 2008.
Instructors for 2008 are: Calvin Volrath, Troy MacGillivray, Mark Sullivan, Brian Hebert, Trent Bruner, Jacinthe Trudeau, Geoff Horrocks, Shane Cook, Jim Hunter, Mathew Johnson, and Patti Lamoureux.
Participants are divided into small groups, each with its own fiddle or piano instructor. In addition, workshops on technique, styles and tunes will be given by the fiddle instructors.
There will be a concert each evening, followed by one of the best jam sessions known at any fiddle camp. Everyone may join in. The sessions start at a slower speed for the beginner and intermediate level players and progress to a more advanced level as the night progresses
