A Special Advance Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Robbie Burns' Birth
Bobby Watt and Friends present a special tribute to Robbie Burns at the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage on Friday, January 9. This event will include a wealth of wonderful songs and tunes composed by the beloved "bard of Scotland", along with dramatic readings by John Hardie and other special features. And yes, haggis will be available for consumption by courageous attendees! CBC Radio will be on hand to record this concert and will broadcast it nationally on January 25, the 250th anniversary of Robbie Burns' birth.
Bobby Watt is a musician with a powerful voice, boundless positive energy, and a unique employment background! He immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1975 and originally found employment with the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force’s underwater diving unit. He subsequently created an Ottawa-based stone masonry company, working with dozens of employees to restore old buildings to their original glory. In addition to doing extensive work on the Parliament Buildings, Bobby has worked on the State Capitol in Topeka, Kansas and the Washington Monument, as well as the second-oldest church in the "New World" located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bobby has been a member of the Police Pipe Band, and founded a rock group — with bagpipes! — called Cromdale. More recently, he has pursued a path as a singer-songwriter, with three highly-regarded CDs to his credit.
Other performers for this special anniversary concert include musicians James Stephens, Duncan Gillis and Rob Graves, and actor John Hardie.
