Ireland is affectionately referred to as “the old sod” by many people whose forbearers crossed the sea and left it behind. And truly, the stories of Ireland have a familiar ring to those of us who share in and celebrate its rich cultural heritage. But some stories less often told, hold more mystery, and can surprise us with their mysticism and dark humor. In this ancient land, kings still rule wisely, the dead rise and walk, and faeries wander the hills.
Irish seanachie Mike Burns returns after a sell-out show last season to join with Ottawa tellers Kim Kilpatrick and Anne Nagy in sharing funny and magical stories of old Ireland.

Michael Burns. Mike has been telling stories for over 40 years now and says he “has the feeling I may yet come good at it.” He got a lazy start, not having to leave the fireplace in his father’s house to hear stories and « seanchas. »He is a gaelic speaker and has a a repertoire of several hundred traditional stories from the lore of Iveragh (South Kerry). He gives concerts regularly at festivals across Canada and abroad. He has created a book-CD of stories (in French) and a CD of stories in English as well as being included in anthologies of Canadian storytellers in both French and English. He is a co-founder of Regroupement Du Conte au Québec (RCQ) and has been awarded the Girouette Cuivrée prize for services as a storyteller.
Kim Kilpatrick. Born, a) blind and b) determinedly independent, Kim works as a storyteller, music therapist and coordinator of volunteers, She is particularly known for her readiness to find the humour in the rollicking events of her childhood and in the situations brought to her on a daily basis by her disability. She has told at: the Ottawa Storytelling Festival, Rasputin's Folk Café, The Tea Party, The 4th Stage, and in many other local venues.
Anne Nagy: Journeying with this Ottawa storyteller will take you straight to the heart, the mind and the funny bone. Anne traces her Irish ancestry right up the Ottawa Valley. That would account for both of her passions: storytelling and music.
